What made this win unique was the car… with its 6 wheels.The process from design to execution of the 6-wheels was complex, but the theory behind the idea of having four small wheels at the front was relatively straightforward. With small 10 inch wheels almost hidden by the bodywork and front wing, the amount of lift generated was much less than that of normal sized wheels. This meant the car could run less aero downforce and drag at the front, increasing the car’s performance to the equivalent of 40 horsepower and giving it more front-end grip allowing the car to turn faster.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0679/1584/1811/products/TyrrellP34_TheJoyofSixWheels_GrayBG__56416.1609921582.1280.1280.jpg?v=1743658468
formula-1-decades-70s-tyrrell-collectors-edition-unique-s
Formula 1® Decades | Tyrrell 1970s | Collector's Edition | Unique Numbers Poster
As Formula 1 completes seven decades of racing, this range of 8 special artworks has each one dedicated to a decade of racing from the 1950s to the present day, plus an additional one looking to the future of the sport. In 1975, Tyrrell introduced its new car design for the upcoming season and it was a sight to behold. The car featured not two, but four wheels in the front. And thus, Project 34 was born. Joining the grid in 1976 with drivers Jody Scheckter and Patrick Depailler behind the wheel, the P34 is arguably one of the most recognisable vehicles to ever grace the circuit.

The idea of a six-wheeled Formula car stemmed from an official regulation that allowed a maximum width of 1.5 metres for the front wing. Causing a disturbance in the aerodynamics, the wheels would have to be much smaller to fit entirely behind the wing. A 10-inch diameter fit the needs perfectly but meant a significant decrease in handling. Tyrrell's chief designer, Derek Gardner, therefore opted for a drastic solution. He gave the front axle four wheels instead of two. Fitted with the Ford-Cosworth 3-litre V8 engine, the P34 was ready for the season ahead.

The Tyrrell P34 is the most recent addition to our Blueprint Collection. Sporting its original livery, the car's design predicted its most successful race, the Swedish GP, which saw a 1-2 finish for Tyrrell. Displaying the car's six-wheeled chassis from various angles, the poster showcases the number of wins, podium finishes and other stats of the 1976 season. Available in Limited, Classic and Mini Editions, this artwork is a celebration of Tyrrell's ingenuity and craftsmanship.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0679/1584/1811/files/Tyrrell-P34-Blueprint_LimitedEdition_ProductMain_1.jpg?v=1743658019
