Much of the action from the race was used in the 1971 Steve McQueen film of the same name; with the Porsche 917 playing a supporting role.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHere we see the 917K, driven by the team of Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood, cruising through the deluge on their way to claim Porsche’s first-ever win at Le Mans. \u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eHermann, who was 43 at the time, promised his wife before the race that if he won, he would immediately retire from racing.
