A dizzy Ricardo Paletti is assisted past the remains of his sella, its front and rear suspensions both destroyed. His car had left the track and bounded over the tire barriers, spearing into the final barrier, just a few feet before the aluminium railings. Fortunately, it remained upright with no fire, as the netting that bound the tyres together had separated and can be seen covering the cockpit. Any flames would have melted the plastic netting, making Paletti's escape nearly impossible. In those days, any accident, no matter how minor, could become lethal in a instant.
