Story behind

Pink Pig

The Porsche 917/20 in its iconic 'Pink Pig' livery is one of the most memorable race cars ever built, despite its brief racing history. For a car that only raced once in its audacious pink livery fifty-one years ago, the 'Pink Pig' occupies a unique niche in the history of Porsche. Sporting an extraordinary look decorated with dotted lines mimicking a butcher’s chart, the bold color scheme was intended to work as a distraction for Porsche's aerodynamic secrets. The car, with its wide body and distinctive design, combined elements of the 917K and 917LH models, showcasing innovative aerodynamics that would influence future racing designs. Though it crashed out of the 1971 24 Hours of Le Mans, its distinctive appearance and the audacity of its creators left an indelible mark on motorsport history.
